Uses For PTFE Hose
PTFE smooth bore hose is normally used for general purpose application like hydraulics, as well as the specific applications which require for high temperature resistance, and high pressure resistance, like Aerospace industry and hot runner system(water hose, air hose, oil hose);
For AN series PTFE smooth liner hose, it can be used for automotive as brake & clutch lines, transmission cooler lines, gauge lines, power steering lines, turbocharger oil lines, fuel oil lines and etc;
Due to the PTFE's non-viscosity, PTFE smooth bore hose also can be used in adhesive dispensing machines, hot melt adhesive dispensers;
PTFE's aging resistance makes it the best choice for long-term use or outdoor all-whether use to maintain its stability, such as air humidification system and etc.
PTFE convoluted hose has excellent flexibility and kink resistance, which can be widely used in industries with high requirements for bending and frequent movement, like air compressor for bus, and HVAC system;
Combined the advantages of PTFE smooth bore hose (high flow rate, excellent cleanability and high pressure, easy to clean & crimp) and convoluted hose (outstanding flexibility and sufficiently bent), PTFE smooth bore inner and convoluted outer hose becomes a great ideal option for the applications with higher requirements, such as biopharmaceutical industry.
Review Of PTFE Hose Assemblies
PTFE Smooth Bore Hose With Crimped Ends
Crimping PTFE hoses and fittings can be done by our factory facility. After the PTFE hoses pass a series of tests such as airtightness test, pressure test, leakage test, etc., the crimping parameters are set according to the specifications of the hose, and then the first sample is made and tested. Before shipment, we will batch test all the crimped assembled hoses.
PTFE Convoluted Hose With Crimped Ends
In order to better crimp, we will use a specially customized ferrules for crimping. This kind of ferrule is thick in the middle and thin on both sides, which can be completely crimped without leakage under correct crimping conditions; for better sealing, we can also make cuffed ends, flared ends at both ends, and then crimp the flanged ends.
AN Series PTFE Lines With Crimped Ends
To crimp PTFE lines with AN fittings in crimp type, it can be also done at our facilities, it requires a hydraulic press with specific dies to properly crimp the collar onto the hose ends. The Crimp style hose requires a new crimp collar to be reused but is considered to be the strongest most reliable fitting if crimped correctly.
AN Series PTFE Lines With Assembled Ends
This kind of hose assemblies is made by reusable hose ends, can be assembled and serviced using hand tools. The reusable hose ends use a two part system to hold the hose in place. They come in a variety of different sizes, angles and colors. They are slightly heavier but are claimed to have a more secure hose clamping method than push locks.
PTFE Hose : The Ultimate Guide
Polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE for short, is one of the common names for Teflon. PTFE hose is used in stainless steel hose so the hose lasts much longer than rubber hose or rubber encased in stainless steel. At BESTEFLON PTFE Hose, we will closely partner with you and your team to fabricate the best solution for your specific application needs. Choosing the correct PTFE hose fabricator is paramount to achieving the best possible hose assembly for your most critical fluid transfer applications.
What Is Ptfe Hose?
PTFE Hose is a very versatile and durable alternative to rubber hose. PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is used as a liner for stainless steel braided hose or rubber hose to increase temperature range compatibility, chemical resistance, flexibility and shock resistance.
Benefits of Using PTFE Hose
PTFE hose helps to prevent gas odors from permeating the hose itself. This type of hose resists all types of fluids and chemicals, including gas, ethanol, transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid and antifreeze. Rubber doesn’t resist these fluids nearly as good as PTFE since the chemicals tend to break the rubber down.
Furthermore, PTFE has higher temperature tolerances than rubber does. Thus if the engine overheats, It has less chance of the heat damaging the hoses. In addition to the high heat tolerance of PTFE, it has a higher pressure rating than rubber.
PTFE Hose Pressure Rating
The pressure rating of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) hose may vary depending on the size and construction of the hose. Typically, they have a higher pressure rating than rubber hoses because they are able to handle a wider range of fluids and temperatures.
For example, 1/4" PTFE hose has a maximum working pressure of 3,000 psi and 1/2" PTFE hose has a maximum working pressure of 2,000 psi.
It is important to note that pressure ratings also depend on the fittings used with the PTFE hose. Always check with the manufacturer for specific pressure ratings and recommendations for your application.
Properties of PTFE Hose
Broad temperature range of -100°F to 500°F (-73°C to 260°C)
High operating pressure up to 6,160 psi
Excellent chemical compatibility with most acids, alcohols, detergents, and solvents. It is the most versatile thermoplastic hose in terms of chemical resistance available on the market right now
Lowest coefficient of friction of any known plastic hose. Its non-stick surface properties decrease the chances of pressure drops and deposit buildup
Durability. This hose is chemically inert, which means that it will not break down while in use or deteriorate in storage. It has an unlimited shelf life and its properties do not change with time.
Does Ptfe Hose Require Special Fittings
PTFE hose is too stiff for hose clamps. It won't “crush” onto a fitting to create a good seal, like a conventional clamp. So, unique aluminum AN fittings must be used to secure the new hoses.
What Is Ptfe Hose Material?
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is an engineered fluoropolymer. Outstanding resistance to chemicals is one of its primary attributes. A broad temperature range of -54°C to 260°C makes this hose material suitable for the majority of fluids and ambient temperature conditions found in most industries.
How is PTFE Manufactured?
The manufacturing of PTFE can be done in two ways.
Suspension: This method polymerizes TFE in water, resulting in PTFE grains. The grains can be processed further to make pellets that can be molded.
Dispersion: The resulting PTFE is a milky paste processed into a fine powder. In coating applications, both the paste and powder are used.
PTFE braided hose temp?
The fluoropolymer (PTFE) gives the hose its chemical resistance and is therefore virtually inert to all chemicals. The combination of the fiberglass outer braid and PTFE liner, make the hose essentially non-flammable. Superior chemical, temperature and flame resistance. Temperature: -65°F to 450°F.
Is Ptfe Hose Fuel Safe?
For hoses that need to be run inside the cabin, PTFE hoses are ideal, as fuel fumes will not permeate the hose walls.
Can You Use Gas With Ptfe Hose?
This type of hose resists all types of fluids and chemicals, including gas, ethanol, transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid and antifreeze.
PTFE Smooth Bore Hose VS Rubber Hose
1、PTFE hose has minimal volumetric expansion (hose swelling), it is much better than the rubber hose as hydraulic brake lines for powerful braking and amazing feel.
2、Rubber can penetrate some chemicals and release smoke. It has a high surface resistance and can reduce flow. It can be heavy. The decomposition rate of rubber is also much faster than that of PTFE. PTFE hoses are highly resistant to most chemicals, and they do not often release smoke, which is important for any kind of enclosed space. This chemical resistance also means that the decomposition rate of PTFE hoses is much slower than that of rubber hoses.
3、The surface friction of PTFE is also less than that of rubber, which means that the flow can be improved by using a PTFE hose. Rubber is easy to decompose at extreme temperatures, and PTFE is resistant to high temperatures, making it an ideal material for various industries.
PTFE Convoluted Hose VS Stainless Steel Convoluted Hose
1、Although the long-term operating temperature of regular stainless steel 304 convoluted hoses can reach 800℃, and the working temperature of PTFE can only reach around 260℃, the corrosion resistance of PTFE is much better than that of stainless steel, and PTFE is almost inert to all chemicals.
2、PTFE is more resistant to aging than stainless steel, so PTFE is less prone to aging and more durable during use. Therefore, PTFE convoluted hose becomes a better choice in applications where the temperature is within 260℃ instead of stainless steel convoluted hoses.
3、Under the same stainless steel wire braiding conditions, the pressure resistance of the PTFE convoluted hose will be relatively higher than stainless steel convoluted hoses.
